The Story of Essential Oils and Our Perfumes
One of my absolute favourite fragrance ingredients is Labdanum, also known as Cistus or Rock Rose. It was first mentioned as a perfume ingredient by Herodotus in the 5th century BC. This resinous material is incredibly versatile and can have warm, smoky, woody, powdery, amberry and sensual nuances. Labdanum has an affinity for skin which gives compositions tenacity, without being overwhelming. Lemon-scented eucalyptus essential oil has such an uplifting, joyous aroma, it is like liquid sunshine. It imparts Daisy Chain with a feeling of pure happiness. Daisy Chain also contains orris, from the dried rhizome of the iris flower. This is a beautiful, if expensive, base note. Many modern perfumes use artificial iris substitutes but I have used real orris in the creation of Daisy Chain. The scent develops a softness and smoothness in the dry down not achieved by artificial substitutes. Peru Balsam imparts a sweet, warm finish to......Read More
Fragrance Families at the Expo 2017
Fragrance families have changed a lot over the last 100 years. Originally, they included floral - both single and bouquet, woody, chypre, amber, fougere and leather. The original Chypre fragrance was created by Francois Coty in 1917. It took the world by storm. Based on an accord of bergamot, oakmoss, patchouli and labdanum, this fragrance style remains popular today, 100 years later. Perfumery continues to evolve with new styles and fragrances emerging every year. Michael Edwards, “the perfume expert’s expert” invented the Fragrance Wheel to help categorise and organise fragrances, by sorting them into four main groups including Floral, Oriental, Woody and Fresh, which are further subdivided into families including green, fruity and mossy wood or chypre. He was kind enough to sign a copy of his book “Fragrances of the World” for me. The floral fragrance group remains a favourite for many and includes fresh floral, soft floral......Read More
Australasian Artisan Botanical Perfume Expo November 18, 2017
Perfume is my passion and has been all my life. I started making customised fragrances 10 years ago. I love essential oils, especially those from Australian native plants and I believe these scents have seeped into our scent memories and form part of our personal sense landscape. Looking for a long lasting fragrance? High concentrations of luxury essential oils give natural fragrances staying power. An alabaster vase recovered from Tutankhamen's tomb was found to contain a perfume which was still fragrant after more than 3000 years! Now that's longevity. Lotus Lane is Pearl Perfumery's first alcohol based perfume. It was launched last year at our first Botanical Perfume Expo. This fresh unisex scent has a heart of blue lotus, one of my absolute favourite essential oils. Exotic and enchanting. Why not join us at this year's expo to find out about our latest range of luxury scents. Try out......Read More

Hi, welcome and a heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and helped with the Inaugural Australasian Artisan Botanical Perfume Expo (wow that's a mouthful). It was a day full of fun, fragrance and festivities. They say to be successful, you should surround yourself with talented people. My incredible co-exhibiters included Suzanne Banks of Banks Botanicals, Kim Lansdowne-Walker from Temp L Dor and the amazing Julie Nelson, creative force behind Aromatique Essentials and the Expo itself, so talent was in plentiful supply. Thanks to our volunteers and helpers, notably Portia Turbo from APJ, Emma, Kath, Rebekah, Kitchen Green for the tasty treats and Amy for photography. It was great to see so many Sydney Perfume Lovers too. Serenade and Lotus Lane were launched at the Expo and were the most popular of the Pearl Perfumery fragrances. They are so new they have not yet been listed on the web site......Read More

Welcome to the Pearl Perfumery Website
Pearl Perfumery has been a dream of mine for many years. The journey began when I was a child with a fascination and passion for the scents that surrounded me. Fine fragrances beckoned from any unattended dressing table. My Grandmother’s cottage garden full of the classically beautiful scents of roses, jonquils and magnolia was nestled in Australian bushland with the heady aromas of the distinctively different native trees and flowers. Whether it was Mum’s Arpège, or the flowers picked from my Nana’s garden, I was in love with the scented world. When I read “The Emperor of Scent” by Chandler Burr, a true story about a brilliant scientist and perfume obsessive, Luca Turin, my passion was ignited. I knew I must create perfume, in a way that reflected the unique journey of others, so they too could experience their own sacred scent. I recently met Chandler Burr and......Read More
